Setting the skills standards for industry success.

The nationally-recognized Manufacturing Skills Institute (MSI) Manufacturing Technician Level 1 (MT1) © certificate program was developed by industry, for industry.  The program is an industry-validated assessment, training and certification system for all production technician job roles in all sectors of manufacturing and is endorsed by the National Association of Manufacturers and included in its National Skills Certification System.

Working with industry and workforce partners, the MT1 Design Team created an industry-wide technical skills credential and a pathway to advanced level training and specialized training based on industry requirements for potential new hires and incumbent workers: (1) Math and Measurement, (2) Manufacturing Technology and Spatial Reasoning, and (3) Quality and Business Acumen.  In addition, the technical design team created (1) competency-based, employer-validated certification system for advanced technology technical skill levels, (2) an employer-led outreach, recruitment and screening initiative to raise awareness of career opportunities in advanced technology and recruit qualified and near-qualified applicants, and (3) an innovative employer-designed training program for Level 1 manufacturing technicians that integrates learning through problem and case based team work on production process simulations and challenges.
