Each summer, ITAC and its industry partners sponsor an Advanced Manufacturing and Technology Camp as a new and exciting way to educate local high school students about careers in manufacturing. The goal of this camp is to expose high school students and their parents to these career paths that are in extremely high demand in our area. Thanks to our sponsors and cooperation with area schools, this camp is completely free to students and students have the chance to win $500 scholarships to the post-secondary provider of their choice! Since our first camp in 2013, over 150 area high schoolers have participated, and $27,000 in scholarships have been awarded.
This year, the camp took place July 17 – 20 at ITAC and we had 25 area students participate. During this camp, students gained lots of first-hand/hands-on experience with current manufacturing processes and technologies, they received valuable insight and advice from industry professionals, and they participated in engaging and informative field trips to area manufacturers (Fort Lee Ordinance Welding School and Rolls-Royce). Students spent the week working and learning in teams led by industry professionals from area manufacturers. On the final day, the teams participated in an exciting competition that put their acquired knowledge and skills to the test. This year, our Red Team won the competition and each member of the Red Team won a $500 scholarship to the post-secondary provider of their choice!
