Employees must understand written text to perform their jobs effectively. Integrating this assessment helps optimize production, control costs, and uphold safety standards. The Workplace Documents Assessment gauges skills in reading and interpreting workplace documents, which are vital for making job-related decisions and solving problems. 

 Assessment Overview: The Workplace Documents assessment measures skills that individuals use when they read real workplace documents and use that information to make job-related decisions and solve problems. The documents include messages, emails, letters, directions, signs, bulletins, policies, websites, contracts, and regulations. The assessment includes 35 items, delivered online or on paper, and takes 55 minutes to complete. 

Assessment Levels: The test consists of five levels of difficulty (Levels 3 to 7), each building on the skills assessed at previous levels. 

Level 3 

  • Characteristics: Basic company policies, procedures, and announcements; short and simple; direct information. 
  • Skills: Identify main ideas and specific details, follow basic instructions. 

Level 4 

  • Characteristics: Company policies, procedures, and notices; straightforward but longer with more details; some harder words. 
  • Skills: Identify main ideas, understand word meanings, follow procedures with changing conditions. 

Level 5 

  • Characteristics: Informational, instructional, policy, contracts, and legal documents; longer passages with extraneous information; professional jargon. 
  • Skills: Infer word meanings, apply instructions to new situations, understand technical terms. 

Level 6 

  • Characteristics: Informational, instructional, policy, contracts, and legal documents; complex sentences and vocabulary; implied meanings. 
  • Skills: Infer details, understand acronyms and jargon from context, apply principles to new situations. 

Level 7 

  • Characteristics: Very complex reading materials; detailed information; complicated concepts; difficult vocabulary. 
  • Skills: Infer implied details, understand technical terms from context, apply information to new situations, identify document rationale.
